On November 20th, 2025, the MED-Routes consortium convened in Athens for a full-day Transnational Project Meeting, hosted at the Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Partners representing multiple Mediterranean territories gathered to review progress, share implementation experiences, and discuss the next operational steps as the project enters its final phase.
Over the course of the agenda — which included implementation briefings, financial reporting, work package reviews, and communication strategies — partners confirmed that the project is progressing smoothly and according to schedule. The meeting also provided an opportunity for open exchange among participants, ensuring alignment as the project moves toward final evaluation and long-term continuity planning.
Showcasing the Eco-Itineraries
A key highlight of the day was the presentation of the newly finalized eco-itineraries, developed within the framework of the MED-Routes methodological approach. These itineraries demonstrate how cultural heritage, community engagement, and sustainable mobility can be integrated into meaningful cultural tourism experiences.
During the session, partners viewed the newly produced promotional videos and digital maps, offering a first visual representation of what travelers will soon experience: authentic cultural discovery rooted in responsible tourism principles. These resources — along with all public project deliverables — are available online.
Strengthening Capacities and Building Legacy
The Athens meeting focused not only on showcasing progress, but also on ensuring long-term impact. Discussions included:
-
reinforcement of capacity-building activities,
-
coordination with local institutions and tourism stakeholders,
-
integration of eco-itineraries into governance and existing Cultural Routes frameworks,
-
and communication strategies to support future promotion.
As reflected throughout the day, MED-Routes is more than a collection of outputs — it is building a shared Mediterranean approach to sustainable cultural tourism, one that can be replicated and adapted across territories.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with a review of the final steps before project closure, alongside future collaboration opportunities linked to European Cultural Routes and regional policy structures. With tangible results now in place and partners aligned for final delivery, the MED-Routes project is well-positioned to continue generating value beyond its formal end.
