22/02/2026

The MED-Routes project proudly presents its final Newsletter, marking 27 months of collaboration, innovation and sustainable tourism transformation across the Mediterranean

READ OUR NEWSLETTER

This special edition offers a comprehensive overview of the project’s achievements — from the co-creation of 8 eco-itineraries across 7 countries, to the mobilisation of over 1,000 participants through 21 events, labs and peer-learning exchanges. Readers will discover how MED-Routes successfully transferred and adapted the INCIRCLE and EMBLEMATIC methodologies into operational tools embedded within four European Cultural Routes.

The Newsletter also provides direct access to the videos and maps of each eco-itinerary, showcasing how cultural heritage, local identity and circular economy principles were transformed into tangible visitor experiences. From the the Phoenicians’ Route to the Routes of the olive tree, from the European Route of Ceramics to Destination Napoleon, each itinerary demonstrates how sustainability can move from theory to practice.

Beyond the pilot actions, this newsletter highlights the project’s strategic outputs and learning pathways. Readers can explore the Guidebook for Knowledge Transfer, the Comprehensive Training Package, the MED-Routes Action Plans and the EU Green Label of Cultural Eco-Itineraries – practical resources designed to support replication across new territories. These tools are available in multiple languages and provide a structured framework for destinations, Cultural Routes and policy actors aiming to embed sustainable tourism governance.

Finally, the Newsletter looks ahead. MED-Routes does not end in 2026: it transitions. The final pages outline the lessons learned, the importance of governance integration and stakeholder co-ownership, and the long-term vision for scaling sustainable tourism across Mediterranean destinations.

We invite you to explore the full Newsletter and discover how MED-Routes has built a replicable pathway for greener, more resilient eco-itineraries anchored in Cultural Routes across the Mediterranean.
